Malta is known for its beautiful beaches and sunny weather, but it seems that Mother Nature has a different plan for the rest of the week. According to the local weather page, Maltese Islands Weather, we’re about to experience a sandy weather phenomenon, straight from the Sahara Desert.

The weather page has advised you not to bother cleaning your cars and windows because more rain is about to hit our islands, lasting till the weekend, including rain with abundant fine desert sand.

While sandy rain is not an everyday occurrence, it is not entirely unusual either, especially during spring. Episodes from the Sahara Desert are very common during this season of change. This is due to a series of low-pressure systems originating over northern Africa.

Strong winds from the Sahara Desert carry sand particles over long distances and mix with rain clouds, leading to sand falling with the rain.

Once the rain dries up, the sand particles, in turn, create a thin layer of residue on the surfaces of cars, windows, and buildings, which can be difficult to remove and can cause minor damages if not handled properly.
