Thinking of washing your car or windows this weekend? Don’t bother! Blood rain, more commonly known as xita tal-ħamrija in Maltese, is expected to hit the Maltese Islands over the weekend.

In a Facbook post, Malta Weather warns, “The strong southerly winds expected this coming weekend will bring plenty of airborne Sahara Desert sand over Malta and Gozo! And any rain is expected to be blood rain!”
The weekend is forecast to be partly cloudy, with a chance of a windy thunderstorm on Sunday, so you might want to rethink your outdoor plans!
