People from both Malta and Gozo managed to get a good look at the volcano.
Early risers in Malta were treated to one amazing view this morning…
A number of photographers situated in the North of Malta and Gozo took to social media to share some images of Mount Etna, visible all the way from our tiny islands!
“Good morning to all from Nadur! Mount Etna was visible on the horizon early this morning,” Maltese Islands Weather wrote, sharing photographer George Carl Camilleri’s image.
“The improved visibility was brought about by the breezy North-Westerly which cleared the air from pollution, haze, and airborne fine dust,” it continued.
Stephen Ruff, another Gozitan resident, spotted the volcano from Zebbug.
Today’s North-Westerly winds brought along some relatively cooler temperatures, with highs of 32°C expected throughout the day.
Said winds are only expected to last until this evening, with the Malta International Airport’s meteorological office forecasting Southern winds for the rest of the week, that is, until Saturday 17th September.
Charles Debono – a Mellieha resident – was also lucky enough to spot the neighbouring island’s volcano.
For Mount Etna to be visible from the Maltese islands, visibility across the channel separating Malta and Sicily must be optimal. This makes spotting the volcano from our islands a relatively rare occurrence.
