Defying limits! Maltese theatremaker Luke Saydon joins official Wicked musical workshops across London
Maltese theatremaker Luke Saydon – best known locally for his acclaimed original musicals Il-Kazin tal-Imqarbin and It-Teatru tal-Miskin, which both sold out in two consecutive runs – has added another incredible milestone to his creative journey. Based in London, Luke has been selected to collaborate with Wicked Active Learning and Starling Arts, bringing the magic of the hit West End musical Wicked to communities and schools across the UK capital.
Starling Arts is a London-based organisation that promotes health and wellbeing through the power of singing, while Wicked Active Learning is the official cultural and social education programme for the long-running West End production of Wicked, currently showing at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
Sharing the exciting news on social media, Luke wrote:
‘Some thrillifying news – This week, I start a new job with Wicked Active Learning and Starling Arts! I’ll get to travel to communities and schools all over London delivering the only official workshops of the West End musical Wicked. It’s the biggest honour to deliver this work inspired by a musical that I adore.’
As part of his new role, Luke will be leading anti-bullying workshops inspired by Wicked’s central characters, Elphaba and Glinda – a perfect initiative for Anti-Bullying Week, which is currently being celebrated across the UK.
‘Thank you Wicked Active Learning and Starling Arts for bringing me into this family. I couldn’t be happier!’ he added, deftly quoting one of the musical’s songs.
Congratulations and best of luck in your new endeavour, Luke!
