Dead turtle washed ashore at Balluta was ‘yet another consequence of marine litter’ - Zibel
Poor baby…

This summer, the islands have seen a bunch of turtle eggs hatching on various beaches around the islands that brought joy to locals everywhere. Unfortunately, sometimes these turtles don’t survive the wild all because of human selfishness…

“Earlier this week, we came across a picture of a dead turtle washed ashore at Balluta Bay. Unfortunately, this was yet another consequence of marine litter; as the turtle was found to have ingested multiple fishing hooks and fishing lines, resulting in its death,” Zibel share in a post on Facebook this morning.

“Every year, entanglement and ingestion of marine litter results in the death of hundreds of thousands of marine mammals worldwide. This is why our core focus over the next year is to remove as much waste from our shores as possible as part of our monthly clean ups, and Project Xibka. Get in touch to find out how you or your company can support our efforts and stop these incidents from taking place!” they urge.

If you come across an endangered animal, here’s what you need to do:

“Should you come across any endangered wild animal or turtle, rather than attempting to rescue it/untangle it, you may call the Nature Trust – FEE Malta Wildlife Rescue hotline on 99999505." Their team of experts will take things from there and will seek treatment accordingly.
