Big moves for Maltese footballer Maria Farrugia! After an impressive season and brilliant performances in the Women’s Championship, the talented forward has officially signed with Bristol City Women’s FC, adding another milestone to her growing list of achievements.

Maria, who previously played for Sheffield United, was recently awarded Goal of the Season at the Women’s Professional Game Awards for a stunning strike against none other than her new team – Bristol City! Her exceptional play also earned her a nomination for Barclays Women’s Championship Player of the Season, in the very same month.

With more than 50 caps for the Malta women’s national team and experience playing for clubs like Sunderland, Durham and Lewes, the 23-year-old is no stranger to the pitch, and she’s ready for her next chapter.

Maria joined Bristol City on a two-year contract, running until summer 2027. She’s already joined the squad for the start of pre-season training.

Head Coach Charlotte Healy praised the signing, saying: ‘Maria’s track record in the division speaks for itself and she has an eye for goal as a creative player. She will add a lot of quality to our squad.’

Just three weeks ago, Maria bid farewell to Sheffield United in a social media post, writing: ‘After a season with Sheffield United, it’s time for a new chapter. It’s been a real honour to wear the red and white and be part of this club.’

Good luck, Maria – Malta is proud of you!
