Can't find a face mask? This is what the government suggests you do instead
New COVID-19 measures require a face mask when shopping or using public transport

As from Monday, shoppers and those making use of public transport must wear face masks.

Despite reassurances from health authorities that such masks are widely available in Malta and Gozo, many have taken to social media in a panic claiming they were unable to find any in stock at their local pharmacies.

As such, Malta's Department of Information issued a DIY home solution for those left without a mask: "Try creating a cloth face covering using bandanas, or other washable materials which you find at home," the post read.

Linking to an article recommending guidelines for the appropriate use of face masks, it reveals twice-folded cotten fabric provides just as much protection. It also emphasizes that while masks should be worn snugly, they must allow a person enough room to breathe.

Masks have been deemed an essential instrument in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
