Malta has just announced 17 new cases of Coronavirus, reaching a total of 107 local cases, two of which are now in recovery. With stricter measures put to action earlier today, a photo of a crowded Bugibba bus station has drawn the ire of many.
Despite health authorities' advice to keep a safe distance between one another, commuters are pictured huddling in a large cluster around the waiting area, presumably to board a bus to reach their workplace.

The photo was shared to local Facebook group Expats Malta by a person who witnessed the scene this morning: "This is Buggibba bus station in Malta. Since two days I've decided to not get the bus to go to work, for my own choice, and fortunately there is a colleague of mine living nearby to give me a lift. I'm wondering if the Maltese government understood how serious the situation is or first do we have to count the number of deaths to take serious actions???" he wrote.
With several workplaces still open, those who do not own a car or have anyone to offer them lifts must still rely on public transport to get to where they need to. Judging by the number of people present this morning, a substantial group do not have another option. In light of this, a good measure to prevent such a situation from happening again is to have an increased bus service during peak hours to ensure a safe and timely journey.
