Calling all history enthusiasts! Step inside history at the Mdina Cathedral Archives this October
History enthusiasts and curious visitors will have the opportunity to explore one of Malta’s most important documentary heritage collections during the Open Weekend at the Archives of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mdina.
Taking place on the 10th and 11th October 2026, from 10am to 4pm, the event invites the public to step behind the scenes and discover the stories, documents and treasures preserved within the historic archives.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can take part in guided tours, offering an insight into the collections and the work involved in preserving Malta’s documentary heritage. Archives and conservation workshops will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the techniques used to safeguard historical records for future generations.
Music workshops will add another creative dimension to the programme, while a book sale will give visitors the chance to browse and purchase titles connected to history, culture and heritage.
Whether you have a passion for Malta’s past, an interest in archival research and conservation, or are simply looking for a different cultural experience, the Open Weekend offers an opportunity to explore a fascinating part of the island’s heritage.
The event will be held at the Archives of the Metropolitan Cathedral, located at 11, Ange’s Palace, Villegaignon Street, Mdina.
