Busy weekend ahead! 121,000 travellers expected at Malta Airport for Valentine’s & Carnival
This weekend colours the airport with masks, parades and packed flights.
If you’re flying out (or picking someone up) this weekend, expect things to be busy at Malta International Airport.
Between 13th and 17th February, around 121,000 passengers are expected to pass through the terminal as Valentine’s Day and Carnival celebrations bring a surge in short European getaways.
Paris remains a go-to choice for couples planning a Valentine’s break. From Malta, travellers can fly to Orly four times a week, Charles de Gaulle daily, and Beauvais twice weekly.
For those chasing Carnival vibes, Venice Treviso (served daily) offers access to the iconic Venetian Carnival, known worldwide for its elaborate masks and historic mystique. Cologne, connected to Malta with three weekly flights, is another Carnival favourite, hosting one of Germany’s largest and liveliest street festivals.
It’s not just Europe’s cities getting festive though! Malta’s airport has also planned a number of themed activities across the terminal and at SkyParks Business Centre throughout the weekend.
Passengers and visitors can expect seasonal touches, complimentary treats and family-friendly activities, including a dedicated kids’ area to keep younger travellers entertained while waiting for their overseas adventure to begin.
This packed upcoming weekend follows a strong January for the airport, which registered 594,889 passenger movements in the first month of the year.
The airport’s busiest day of 2026 so far was 3rd January, when 35,166 passengers travelled across 207 scheduled and charter flights.
Italy remained Malta International Airport’s largest market in January, accounting for 18.4% of passenger traffic. Poland followed closely behind, ahead of the usual suspects: UK, Germany and Spain.
