As December settles in, Malta’s skies are finally beginning to look the part. After months of dry spells, rain is due to make a timely appearance.

According to Maltese Islands Weather, the final stretch of December is shaping up to a wet one. Weather models suggest that this month could become the first December in 11 years to record above-average rainfall.

So far, Malta’s national mean rainfall stands at 40.6mm, still some way off the December average of 93.7mm, but the coming days could help close that gap and maybe give us a few ravishing rainbows to enjoy.

For a country where water scarcity is an ongoing concern, every rainy day counts. These forecasted December rains could replenish groundwater, support agriculture, and refresh landscapes after yet another a long, sun-drenched year.

Beyond these practical benefits, rain also brings a subtle shift in atmosphere. Streets glisten, valleys briefly awaken with greenery, and there’s that gorgeous smell of petrichor in the air. Let’s make it an invitation to slow down, cosy up, and let winter have its moment.

Are you ready to embrace a rainy December in Malta?
