Flashback to 1963! Take a look at one of the earliest public appearances of Father Christmas in Malta
Throwback to 61 years ago!

Today, it's common to see Santa Claus greeting children in popular spots like Valletta or at busy Christmas markets, but there was a time when this was a novelty in Malta. One of the earliest known appearances of Santa in the country dates back to 1963 during a parade in Paola Square. This historic moment was captured in a nostalgic photograph, recently shared by The National Archives of Malta.

The photo is quite the blast from the past, showing children dressed as angels with shiny headbands and the very particular fashion of the 1960s, like plaid skirts and Mary Jane shoes. Crowds of spectators can be seen eagerly gathered around Santa's sleigh, many craning to catch a glimpse of the jolly figure who has since become synonymous with the magic of Christmas.

Do you or someone you know remember this day?
