‘Book. Protect. Enjoy’: Blue Lagoon’s booking system set to resume next Monday
The Blue Lagoon’s sustainable visitor management system, ‘Book. Protect. Enjoy.’, is set to resume on Monday, 19th May, following a court ruling that rejected an attempt by ferry operators to block the initiative.
In a decision handed down on Wednesday, 14th May, the Court dismissed the ferry operators’ legal challenge, which sought to halt both the online booking system and the extension of designated swimming zones at the popular Comino site.

The court concluded that the operators would not suffer irreparable harm and emphasised that the protection of the Blue Lagoon is of national interest - a priority even for those whose livelihoods depend on the area.
The ‘Book. Protect. Enjoy.’ initiative, managed by Team Blue Lagoon, is designed to safeguard the environmentally sensitive Natura 2000 site while improving the visitor experience. It was originally launched on 1st May and showed immediate success, with over 4,800 people booking time slots and receiving access wristbands on day one.
The free online system (accessible at bluelagooncomino.mt) allows visitors to choose from three time slots daily: 08:00–13:00, 13:30–17:30, and 18:00–22:00. Bookings generate a QR code, which is exchanged for a wristband at one of the three entry points. Unauthorised access may incur fines.
The system also limits the number of visitors to a maximum of 4,000 at any one time, a significant reduction from the 12,000 seen during peak periods last summer. Officials will remain on-site in the initial weeks to help educate visitors on the new process.
