Blood rain incoming! A mostly cloudy week followed by ‘xita tal-ħamrija’ over Malta on the weekend
The next time we see the sun might just be Wednesday!

Francesca Vella

You might have woken up in a haze, and that’s not just because it’s a Monday morning! The hazy weather experienced by the islands over the weekend is forecast to continue throughout this week, bringing largely cloudy and breezy weather on most days.

While tomorrow (Tuesday 10th March) will bring more clouds and moderate winds, reaching Force 6, Wednesday will offer some reprieve in the form of sunshine and slightly calmer winds.

Saturday, however, is forecast to bring some rain. While it’s not expected to be heavy, averaging 0.2 mm to 3 mm of rainfall, Maltese Islands Weather is predicting that it’ll be of the ‘blood’ variety, known locally as ‘xita tal-ħamrija’, notorious for dirtying windows and cars, leaving everything looking like a sepia-tinted film. On the bright side, if you’ve been looking for an excuse to delay washing your car, this is it!

Temperatures are expected to remain fairly average for this time of year, at a mean of 17°C, and nights that definitely still require a jacket, averaging minimums of 12°C, but that can feel like 9°C.

Missing the sun already?
