Beautiful brushstrokes! Maltese artist Debbie Bonello captures Malta’s natural beauty on canvas
Have you ever wished you could freeze a beautiful moment in nature? Maltese artist Debbie Bonello does just that, through the brushstrokes of her stunning landscape paintings.
A lover of local scenery, Debbie has been delighting both art and nature enthusiasts with her latest works, which show some of the Maltese Islands’ most serene and lesser-trodden beauty spots. Her work, in depicting these beautiful landscapes, invites the viewer to pause, breathe, and appreciate the raw beauty of Malta and Gozo, as it stretches from canvas to reality, in the cleverly shot photos of her work.
Among her recent artistic tributes is Xrobb l-Għaġin, a stretch of coastline on a peninsula near Marsaxlokk. Known for its white rugged cliffs, Debbie brought this southern tip of the island to life in a way that feels tranquil and powerful in equal parts.
She also turned her attention to Xatt l-Aħmar in Gozo, a quiet inlet famous for its clear waters and rich marine life. Through her paintings, she captures the peace of this coastal spot, often overlooked by visitors rushing between Gozo’s more well-known attractions.
Other featured locations include the narrow, dramatic gorge of Wied il-Għasri that’s become very popular in summer, despite being well-hidden, and Il-Fawwara in Siġġiewi, where rolling countryside meets dramatic sea views – an area that has inspired poets, hikers, and artists like Debbie for generations.
If you’re looking for inspiration for your next hike or lounge in nature, you’ll want to check her work out!
