‘An emotionally wrenching work’ - The Guardian gives LUZZU an impressive FOUR stars
Phuong Le, one of film critics from the esteemed British newspaper, ‘The Guardian’ has given Luzzu an exceptional four stars out of five.
The film that came out at the start of 2021 and was directed by Alex Camilleri is still receiving attention and incredible praise almost a year and a half later.
When talking about Alex, ‘The Guardian’ referred to his directorial debut as “nothing short of a future neo-realist classic”.
The critic soon turned his attention to the real-life fisherman, Jesmark Scicluna who played the leading protagonist.
“Scicluna delivers an impressively understated performance as a man caught in the tug-and-pull of tradition and modernity. His strong, stoic physique belies a storm of conflicted emotions”, he expressed.
In fact, Jesmark has won the prestigious ‘World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award’ in Acting at the Sundance Film Festival, with Alex going on to win ‘The Someone to Watch Award’ at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.
The Guardian’s review concluded by praising the film for “highlighting the specificities of the Maltese language and culture which are still sorely underrepresented in world cinema”.
The film has also been recently added to Hideo Kojima must watch films list. Hideo Kojima is a legendary Japanese video-game designer.
Another amazing achievement for Luzzu to add to the list!
