Adorable new tearoom in Balzan opens this week!
You’ll feel like Alice in Wonderland in this new tearoom, with décor as sweet as the menu.

Mornings will never be the same in Balzan thanks to new tea room and café Carolinas Petit Cafe, which has just opened its doors this week.

Set within Balzan’s main square, it fills a niche within the pretty central village, which despite being a wonderful place to explore, was sadly lacking in spots to stop for a coffee or quick bite to eat. Well, not anymore!

Inside Carolina’s is a treasure trove of feminine loveliness. Ditsy floral drapery hangs from the ceiling, while floral wallpaper and elegant accents are complemented by quirky details everywhere you look – from vintage crockery displayed on the chandelier (yes, chandelier) to the fantastic antique cash register, which is worth the visit for that alone!

Designed by owner Carolina’s partner, renowned local designer Carlo Schembri (the creative mind behind some of Malta’s most beautiful boutique spaces including Palazzo Consiglia and The Vincent), the pretty café is the stuff of girly fantasies.

The décor is a heady mix of British tea rooms (the café actually offers quintessential afternoon tea with classic scones, jam and clotted cream) and a distinctly French feel, which Carolina says was the main inspiration behind the place. “We were at a beautiful café in France, and I wanted it to feel just like that,” she says.

Open throughout the day from 8am to 8pm, it’s the perfect spot to grab a coffee (or tea), quick snack or satisfy your sweet tooth – the beautifully piped cakes and cupcakes certainly caught my attention!
