We all know that the Maltese have hearts of gold - regularly donating money and food items to those in need - and now, a recently launched initiative aimed at spreading joy and love to our elders is set to lend another helping hand.

The initiative, sweetly named Adopt a Granny, at the Jasmine Nursing Home in Msida, is aimed at reducing loneliness among the elderly and creating more inter-generational dialogue between the elderly and children. Through the initiative, children as well as other members of the public are encouraged to visit elderly persons residing in this nursing home, who have no relatives. And well, we love it, especially with Christmas just around the corner!

Why not spend some time with the adorable grannies at Jasmine Nursing Home who are seeking some company and a good laugh over the holidays? Parliamentary Secretary Anthony Agius Decelis, who helped launch the initiative, has said that it is unfortunate that people abandon their relatives once they reach an elderly age - and we couldn't agree more!

Parliamentary Secretary Julia Farrugia Portelli also commented on the importance of respecting our elderly, who have given so much to today’s society throughout their lives. She also added that the initiative brings peace of mind to the elderly and welcomes voluntary organisations and students.
