A splash of colour! Stunning parrot turns heads at Golden Bay
Meet Golden Bay's most colourful visitor!

Francesca Vella

Beachgoers at Golden Bay were treated to a brilliant surprise recently when a stunning parrot, identified in the Facebook comments as a Scarlet Macaw, was spotted enjoying the sun and sea breeze alongside sunbathers.

The beautiful bird caught the attention of marine biologist Alan Deidun, who shared a photo of the unexpected visitor on social media. While some initially believed the parrot might have escaped from a private owner or arrived from the wild, locals quickly clarified the mystery.

Regulars at the beach revealed that the macaw is in fact a well-trained pet, belonging to the person who runs the umbrella and sunbed concession at Golden Bay. The parrot is let out each day for a bit of free-flying exercise – much to the delight (and surprise!) of beach visitors.

With its brilliantly coloured feathers and calm presence, this majestic macaw adds an extra touch of tropical flair to the Maltese coast. So next time you’re soaking up the sun at Golden Bay, keep an eye on the skies – you might just spot this feathered local soaring overhead.

Have you ever seen the feathered beauty?
