A living legacy! Maria Farrugia celebrates 112 years as Malta's oldest woman ever recorded in history
Happy Birthday, Maria!

Lyndsey Grima

Identita Malta’s Facebook page posted a sweet update this morning celebrating a monumental occasion! Maria Farrugia, a resilient and remarkable woman turns 112 years old today!

In doing so, she not only marks another year of life but also etches her name in history as the oldest woman ever recorded among the Maltese and the Gozitans since records started to be kept from 1863.

Born in the quaint town of Mosta, Maria Farrugia, née Galea, came into this world at a time when the world was on the brink of change. From witnessing the ravages of two World Wars to experiencing the ebbs and flows of Malta's own historical milestones, Maria's life is a living chronicle of resilience and adaptation.

As we celebrate Maria's 112th birthday, we honour her remarkable journey but acknowledge the strength of the human spirit.

On behalf of the people of Malta, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Maria Farrugia on this momentous occasion.

Congratulations, Maria!
