72 elderly residents move to nearby hotel to free up space at Gozo General Hospital
More beds will be freed up to combat the virus at hospital.

Reportedly, 72 elderly residents and staff members at Residenza Sant’ Anna have been moved to the nearby Downtown Hotel in Victoria. This is being done to free up space at Gozo General Hospital so that the island can cater for COVID-19 patients.

The news comes a week after the first Coronavirus-related death was reported. She was a 92-year-old woman who resided at Residenza Sant’Anna.

Steward Health Care completed the move to Downtown Hotel which will be housing the elderly. The hospital is reportedly expected to open up 80 more beds to fight the virus.

It has also been reported that the hotel has made the necessary arrangements to accommodate the elderly, including installing a nurse call system, electric motorised beds, and facilities for the staff members.
