24/7 vets for pets! Malta launches new emergency vet service to help pets in urgent need
The service will be available throughout the night, on Sundays & public holidays.

Great news for pet lovers across Malta and Gozo! A new government-backed emergency veterinary service has just launched to ensure that urgent animal care is available around the clock – even after normal clinic hours.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights in collaboration with the Veterinary Surgeons Council, is aimed at making emergency veterinary care more accessible, affordable, and reliable for pet owners who find themselves in a crisis.

Whether it’s a late-night scare or a public holiday emergency, help is now just a call away. Through this scheme, pet owners will benefit from 24/7 access to emergency vet services, including nights, Sundays, and public holidays.

The service will operate in three key regions: Gozo, Northern Malta, and Southern Malta, with licensed clinics participating on a rotation basis to cover night shifts (8:00pm to 8:00am) and full-day hours on Sundays and public holidays.

This setup will continue until the national Animal Hospital in Ta’ Qali becomes fully operational on a permanent basis.

Licensed vet clinics with the right resources and commitment are being invited to join the scheme. Participating clinics will receive financial incentives to ensure high-quality emergency services are delivered consistently across the islands.

A full list of participating clinics will soon be published on vsc.gov.mt, so the public can easily find help when needed.

Do you have a four-legged friend who will be happy to hear the news?
