10 perfect things to do in Malta in September
September is a great time to enjoy these wonderful activities.

Melanie Drury

Wondering what to do in Malta in September? There's plenty to do - some simple pleasures and a few indulgences!

1. Swim at dawn

There's nothing like a swim at sunrise. The world is silent, the water is calm, the light of a new day has come and you're all alone (or in your preferred company) in the peace of the morning. Few things in life are as wonderful as this - make the most of this opportunity while you can! What better way to start the day?

2. Enjoy boat days

If water is your preferred element, you can't do without a day or two spent bobbing on the waves. Whether you go for a yacht charter or hiring a kayak is all you can afford, a day on the water is sure to be a memorable one. But why not gather a few friends, chip in and treat yourselves to some of the most unspoilt spots on a boat

3. Hop on a jet ski

There's an easy solution for those of you who crave exploring Malta's wonderful coast from the water at high speed. Hire a jet ski from different locations around Malta and Gozo and get a great view of the cliffs, caves and bays of the Maltese Islands. On top of that, riding a jet ski gives a sense of freedom and thrills!

4. Don't miss out on the water sports

Perhaps you never considered yourself the sporty type, but water sports are really an experience to be had! I mean, what better place to try water sports than in Malta? Whether you are a local or a visitor, you can enjoy great experiences in some of the nicest, clearest, warmest waters in the world. Remember, there's no tomorrow.

5. Catch lazy days at the beach

Then there are those days when you just want to do nothing. Beach days can be a great excuse to do nothing while doing something. Whether you're the towel-and-a-beer type or enjoy a sunbed, umbrella and picnic cooler, there's nothing like a lazy day at the beach and as autumn approaches, those days are numbered!

6. Sip on an Aperol Spritz at any time and all the time

But it's still technically summer and one of the things we love to do in summer is enjoy Aperol Spritz, pretty much any time we can get our hands on one. I mean, why not? It tastes great, it's fresh and it's good looking too. Plus, it's a great excuse to stop whatever you're doing to break the heat and chill out (it's a matter of survival, right?).

7. Dine al fresco

All those outdoor venues serving sexy drinks and delicious food with a view are certainly tempting. Treat yourself to a few dinners under the sky and the stars while dining al fresco. The nights are beautiful whether on a terrace enjoying a city view and harbour lights reflecting on water or within the internal courtyard or gardens of a centuries-old palazzo.

8. Watch the sunset

You might even catch a sunset from your al fresco dining table or you may want to make the sunset the occasion itself. Malta's sunsets over the horizon are a treat a day. Clear days give you giant red suns dipping in the sea while a dab of cloud lights the sky with the colour of a mad painter. It is worth going to some of Malta's best sunset spots just for the spectacle...and a few good photos.

9. Go to an outdoor party

When darkness falls, nothing goes to sleep...not just yet! In fact, the season of outdoor night parties in Malta is still on. This may range from a massive weekly pool party at Cafe del Mar to a night at any other outdoor venue such as Numero Uno or one of Malta's September festivals.

10. Star gaze

If the quiet of the night is what enchants you in a given moment, head to one of Malta's best stargazing spots in good company with a bottle of wine and enjoy the beautiful sky. Whether the moon is bright or the stars are out, the night is beautiful and a fresh respite from the heat of the day. You might even see a few shooting stars!
