Malta’s traditional figolla has earned a spot on Taste Atlas’ list of the ‘100 Best Cookies in the World’! This beloved Easter treat now stands proudly alongside globally renowned cookies like macarons, chocolate chip cookies, and amaretti.

The figolla, celebrated for its marzipan filling and decorative charm, is more than just a cookie; it’s a cultural staple. Typically adorned with icing or melted chocolate, figolli are most commonly shaped into lambs or bunnies, reflecting their strong association with Easter traditions.

Historically, however, they were crafted into shapes like fish, baskets, or women, which symbolised fertility, as noted by Taste Atlas.

Whether classic in design or modernised with creative decorations, figolli remain a cherished feature in Maltese kitchens and pastry shops. Their enduring presence each Easter solidifies their place not just as a sweet treat but as a symbol of Maltese heritage and tradition.

This recognition highlights the unique charm and flavours of Maltese culinary culture, proving that the figolla is truly a cookie worth celebrating on the world stage!
