Beloved Sliema food truck Gemma Joe’s will reopen next week after four months away – and it is promising to donate every cent it makes on reopening night to Puttinu Cares.
“Not just the profits. Not what’s left over. Every cent of every sale,” the food truck stressed.
The diner-themed dessert food truck was set up by Stephen and John-Paul Pace, who were born in Sydney to a Maltese couple called Gemma and Joe.
Although they grew up in Australia, they felt a strong connection to Malta growing up as their dad used to show them photos and footage of the island. Eventually, they decided to move to Malta and set up a food truck named after their parents.
John-Paul said he wanted Gemma Joe’s reopening night to stand for something bigger than the food truck itself.
“Many years ago, I spent three years during my teens under the care of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, Australia,” he recounted.
“The doctors, nurses and staff there changed my life in ways I’ll never forget. Ever since then, it’s been on my heart that if we were ever in a position to do so, we’d give back to children’s hospitals and the organisations that stand beside families during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
“That’s why we chose Puttinu Cares here in Malta.”

Gemma Joe’s will reopen on Wednesday, 12th August, from 7pm until 11pm.
