Wiggle, wiggle! You've got to move it with these cool dance activities in Malta
If you love to dance, here's how to get moving

Melanie Drury

If, like me, you love to dance, you have ample choices of different dance classes and dance nights in Malta. From Latin dance to Contact Improvisation, I’ve tried it all and feel delighted by just how much is available on these small islands! There's always something to match my mood of the moment.

Latin dance

When I feel flirtatious and on fire, give me Latin dance: Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Brazilian Zouk, Brazilian Forrò and the rest of it. Find details of latin dance classes and social nights here.

Argentine tango

Standing in a class of its own, with its very unique and classy tones, is Argentine tango; check out these argentine tango classes and milonga events.

Belly dance

When it’s time to unveil your femininity, what not try belly dance from the lands of the bedouins? And, try Tribal Fusion belly dance for something veering a little off the strictly traditional.

Hip hop

When I feel all gangsta and want to show off some serious moves, give me hip hop; here’s where to take hip hop classes.

Pole dance

When I want to play with stretches, strength, bends and balance, you should try pole dancing. No, it’s not all about feeling sexy, but it could be!

Fire dancing

When I’m feeling daring and willing to train to gain awesome skills, give me fire dancing with a staff, but you could choose poi or any several circus arts props.

Ecstatic Dance / 5 Rhythms / Chakra Dance

When I want to just dance - without thinking of learning steps and fancy footwork - there's Ecstatic dance, which is about letting loose body, mind and spirit! Just imagine a sober rave.

In addition, 5 Rhythms and Chakra Dance offer similar freedom but each with a different music design. Events are irregular so keep your eyes peeled.

Dance movement therapy

If I want to explore myself through movement, then Dance movement therapy takes me there. Events are sparse but totally worth the experience when they come along.

Contact improvisation

My current personal favourite. Contact improvisation is how I still my mind while exploring movement - within my body and in interactive flow with others - with a touch of acrobatics, theatre and spontaneous playfulness.

Other dance classes, workshops and events in Malta

Beyond what’s listed above, if you want to know what’s on and what’s happening where, Facebook is a great source. This dancers in Malta group has much activity with many posts relating to local events. You can also specifically search the particular dance you’re interested in plus “Malta” to see related pages and events.

Life is like a dancefloor...

I truly believe that life is like a dance floor and that the dance floor teaches you about yourself in the dance of life. And it doesn’t matter all that much which dance floor it is. From Argentine tango to belly dance, the experience of learning how to dance is always unique and wonderful. Enjoy the movement!
