The capital city is certainly the place for jazz, and lovers of the genre are in for a treat this Thursday, with two jazz events to attend in Valletta. Starting at 8pm at Café Society, Adrian Russu Jazz Trio will see trumpet extraordinaire Adrian Russu play some classics alongside Marc Galea on guitar and Alan Portelli on bass, while over at jazz and blues club Offbeat, their weekly Thursday jazz sessions with Nadine Axisa remain a favourite!

Two interesting art exhibitions kick off this week, starting today! The first is Civitas, through which Valletta resident Alfred Camilleri brings together recent paintings and sculpture depicting our capital. Exploring the past and present, keenly observing his native city as one richly steeped in history, commerce and social interaction, the exhibition will be open until 16th June. Meanwhile in Mosta, local artist Lorraine Paris will be showcasing work along a variety of themes, including animal and human portraits, landscapes, floral art, abstract and semi-abstract art. The exhibition starts today and will run till 23rd June.

All week, until 17th June: Valletta Film Festival – various venues around Valletta.

Malta’s biggest cinematic event is in its fourth edition, with international films being screened under the stars, in the open-air venue of Pjazza Teatru Rjal, and in indoor venues dotted around the capital. The films' makers will be in Malta to meet audiences and chat about their work and this year’s special guest is world-renowned film director and artist Peter Greenaway. The festival launched on Friday, and features an impressive schedule. More info here!

Thursday 14th June: FIFA World Cup 2018 kicks off – screenings across the islands.
The hotly anticipated FIFA World Cup will kick off this Thursday with the opening match between Russia Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Malta will be rife with footie fever during World Cup month, and screenings of all matches will be shown in several bars and pubs across the islands. Which team will you be supporting?

Friday 15th June at 7pm: New Moon at Ghar Dalam – Ghar Dalam Cave and Museum, Birzebbuga
Offering a rare opportunity to visit the unique Ghar Dalam cave under a starless sky, Heritage Malta are organising an event that’s sure to delight history fans. It starts off with a tour, featuring a short introduction on the biodiversity of the area, followed by a walk in the garden to listens out for bats! A tour of the cave will follow, allowing visitors to discover more about the interesting finds on past and present animals here. Being a highly important site for its palaeontology, archaeology and ecology, Ghar Dalam’s history and that of the islands can be decoded from this wonderful cave’s stratigraphy. Ticket info here.

Classical music fans will be delighted by this lunchtime concert from tenor Alan Sciberras and international pianist Sofia Narmania who are gaining popularity with local and foreign concert-goers. The concert highlights the works of the world’s foremost opera composers, namely Verdi, Rossini, Puccini and Cilea, with a programme featuring Verdi’s Celeste Aida from the opera Aida, and Dei Miei Bolenti Spiriti and the Prelude from La Traviata, among others.
