Great shots alert! Local photographers Daniel Cilia, Viktor Vella and Franco Aloisio shared insane photos of Mt Etna’s eruption last night, visible from the Maltese Islands.
Volcanic ash from the eruption reportedly blew up to about 4,000m which could be seen from Malta and Gozo. The eruption was reported at around 8.21pm and fallout reached Fleri, a village in the province of Catania. Thankfully, nobody was injured.
Considering it was so strong, shimmers of red could be seen from our islands, some 210km away from the Italian island. “This is what I managed in the rain,” Viktor Vella shared, captioning shots of the explosion.
Mount Etna is Europe’s most active volcano, reporting constant active. A recent incident (December 2018) saw such a major eruption that the volcanic ash produced was strong enough to shut down airspace around the volcano. Sheesh!
