Weather change ahead! Have you noticed the clouds over Malta this morning?
Thundery showers are expected to hit this Friday 20th June!

Have you looked up at the sky this morning? If you’ve noticed a shift in the clouds, you’re not imagining things...the weather is on the move.

This morning marked the first sign of atmospheric instability, as the leading edge of a colder air mass aloft made its way over Malta. It’s a subtle but important change, signalling a temporary shift in our weather pattern.

Looking ahead, according to Maltese Islands Weather, Wednesday, 18th June, will bring variably cloudy skies; a mix of sunshine and cloud cover throughout the day.

However, it looks like we need to keep an umbrella close by for the end of the week. Isolated showers are expected on both Thursday, 19th June, and Friday, 20th June, and they could turn thundery, particularly around midday. These unsettled conditions are arriving just as astronomical spring makes its exit.

But don’t worry - summer has a sunnier plan in store. As astronomical summer officially begins on Saturday, 21st June, we can expect a return to fine weather. Skies should clear and temperatures are likely to rise as more stable conditions set in.

So, if the clouds seemed a little moodier than usual today, they’re simply setting the stage for spring’s final act; one with a few showers and the occasional rumble of thunder before the curtain rises on a brighter summer season.

Are you looking forward to summer thundery weather?

17th June 2025
