We’ve all wondered what life was like in the past, when all that there was to go by were old photographs and our grandparents' memories. But, thanks to British company, Kinolibrary, footage has emerged of Malta’s streets during the 1930s, when people rode the traditional karozzin while goats were milked on people’s doorsteps.

Kinolibrary is an archive agency that licenses remarkable and rare archive footage from around the world, and Malta is one of them. While there’s a whole list of videos to watch to take us back in time, this video is particularly striking.
It shows glimpses of a lifestyle that has long disappeared, some time in the 1930s. One shot taken from the bastions shows the location of the now Hotel Phoenicia at the tip of Sa Maison, Ta’ Xbiex and Manoel Island, showing a much different perspective of the landscape.

Cars can also be seen driving through the old City Gate in Valletta, while the Union Jack flies over San Anton Palace, today the official residence of the President of Malta, where couples are seen strolling past wearing hats and formal suits.

At one point, St Luke’s Hospital, Malta's former general hospital, is featured, the foundations for which were laid in April 1930. Navy ships and military trucks can also be seen in quite a few shots, with uniformed servicemen strolling the streets of Malta, since war was upon the island.
