WATCH: Old 1953 footage shows a very different Gozo to the one we know now
How quaint!

Caroline Curmi

Gozo has always been Malta's picturesque and idyllic little sister, but recently unearthed footage dating all the way back to 1953 accentuates all of this and more.

The video montage, called Sister Island, is an assimilation of clips showing various popular areas around the island in a very different light: Ramla Bay is almost completely devoid of people, a large flock of fishermen proudly display their catch of the day and a group of priests - complete with big black hat and long gown - enjoying an afternoon chat on a village bench as cars whizz by.

There's also a clip of the Bancinu, one of Gozo's old ferries , in action. Talk about hitting you right in the nostalgic feels!

Enjoy this trip to the past!

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
