'The Prospects of the Future': Malta Spring Festival unveils an exciting programme for its 20th edition this April
Bringing timeless classics to the springtime air.

Francesca Vella

The Malta Spring Festival is back, this year presenting its 20th edition, that focuses on future-oriented themes and international artistic education. Founded in 2005 by artistic director Karl Fiorini, the festival has built a reputation for its daring programming and commitment to bringing new orchestral and chamber works to the stage.

Taking place in various prestigious venues across Valletta between the 7th and 11th April, this year’s theme, 'The Prospects of the Future', sets the tone for an immersive musical experience spanning avant-garde pieces, some of which have never been performed in Malta before.

Beyond its highly anticipated evening concerts, in the spirit of looking to the future, the Malta Spring Festival will be hosting the Malta Spring Festival International Strings Academy - a one-week intensive course held during the festival, from the 6th to the 11th April. This free program offers Masterclasses focused on solo and chamber repertoire, and orchestral training sessions. Open to string players currently studying in a Music Institution or University, the Academy provides the opportunity to learn from a host of renowned European musicians and educators.

With four curated concerts, each featuring a remarkable lineup of musicians, the Malta Spring Festival will celebrate a fusion of genres and artistic expression. These are the concerts that will be taking place over the course of the festival:
