WATCH: Make it vegan! Local influencer makes mouth-watering plant-based Maltese sausage
This is the perfect recipe for any Maltese food lover looking to reduce their meat intake.

Benjamin Abela

Anyone who’s ever tasted Maltese cuisine knows that this country’s home to some insanely flavourful dishes.

From hobz biz-zejt and pastizzi to bragioli and the inimitable Maltese sausage, Malta’s got such a diverse set of traditional foods that there’s quite literally something for everyone.

That is, unless you’re vegan.

One of the only downsides to local cuisine is that it doesn’t really offer any vegan options, apart from bigilla and kunserva.

But hey – vegans can’t live on bean dips and tomato spreads…

…that’s why Maltese influencer David Fava came up with his own recipe for vegan Maltese sausage!

The best part is, it isn’t even that difficult to make.

Apart from a couple of ingredients, David’s recipe is made up exclusively of vegetables and seasonings you can find in your average household.

And whilst it’s not the healthiest recipe out there, it’s definitely much better for you than its meat-filled counterpart.

“I tried to make healthier swaps where possible, to keep in line with my usual health recipe alignment – but it’s still an indulgent meal,” David wrote on social media.

“I call it version 1.0, because I think I can make it better. It’s not hard to make if you want to give it a go,” he continued.

Want to treat yourself and / or your vegan friends to some plant-based Maltese cooking?

Then head to David’s Facebook page and you’ll find a detailed recipe ready to satisfy any Maltese sausage-lover!
