St Julian’s residents were treated to a very strange sight last night…

A video uploaded by user Umar Khaan to Facebook group Expats Malta shows an entire car being retrieved from the see at Spinola Bay as police officers desperately try to figure out what happened.

The driver can be seen emerging from the water, soaked to the skin although otherwise unharmed.

A witness to the incident told local news outlet Lovin Malta that the driver said he ended up driving into the sea because he was following a route on Google Maps.

Many people took to the video’s comments section to joke about the unusual incident, with one commenter saying the driver must have “parked to get some pastizzi.”

Another commenter highlighted the environmental ramifications of the incident, saying “great – a whole load of oily crap contaminating the sea.”
