WATCH: Explorer encounters forgotten WW2 structures during Majjistral Park hike
This park’s home to way more than just nature!

Local explorer Pierre Farrugia took his followers on yet another awe-inspiring trek, as he ventured around the idyllic Majjistral Nature & History Park in Mellieha.

The trek took place just a few weeks ago, with Malta’s sunny October skies paving the way for an unexpectedly interesting journey.

Pierre started his trek at the area housing the remains of a British Shooting Range, situated within the Majjistral Park.

The explorer highlighted that, being a national park, the environment within the Majjistral area is protected by law, with park rangers doing their utmost to deter any illegalities.

After a short walk, Pierre informed prospective trekkers that they can choose between two trails when hiking in the area – a challenging trail that goes down the cliffs and through some boulders, and a more accessible trail that goes along the edge of the cliff.

For this video, Pierre chose the latter trail.

As he made his way through the stunning Majjistral landscape, the explorer came across what might as well be the tiniest house in Malta. The structure contains of two rooms – one placed on top of the other. The second floor can be accessed via a metal ladder embedded into the structure’s outdoor wall.

The exact purpose of this structure, Pierre says, is unknown.

Further on into his trek, Pierre came across a mysterious, sizeable rock, which he presumes dates back to the British period.

The rectangular rock had the shape of an anchor and the number ‘one’ engraved into it. Once again, the purpose of this structure remains unknown.

Looking down from the cliffs, Pierre pointed out chunks of that very same cliff that had previously collapsed. Deep cracks present within the very floor Pierre was walking on suggest that this could very easily happen again.

A few minutes after this observation, the explorer came across a series of rock-cut steps, leading downwards into a WW2 observation post. The structure, supported by a concrete ceiling, shows off some immaculate views of the nearby sea and of the sister island of Gozo.

A stone’s throw away from this structure, trekkers can find yet another series of steps. These, however, lead travellers down to sea level.

Have you ever visited Majjistral Park?
