Up for some summer clubbing? Here are 11 of our favourite places in Malta & Gozo
Get ready for the binge… (just don't think about the hangover!)

Kristina Cassar Dowling

Summer, to a lot of Maltese students (and foreign students), can only mean one thing. It’s time to hit the clubs and hit them harder than ever before. It’s time to live this summer as though it were your last and the nightlife scene in Malta is one of the best.

Free entry to most clubs means you can hop around like it’s nobody’s business. It’s time for a summer of sneaky shots, cheeky dances and a permanent smile plastered on your face. This is summer in Malta and here are your top clubbing destinations.

1. Havana

The number one go-to for many club seeking locals is Havana. Appealing to the younger and older generation with its versatile choice of music and sporadic dance off exhibitions every night. There’s no club celebration better than a Havana one if you’re a fan.

2. Playground

Playground is a St Julian’s club that boasts some of the best underground music on the island. It’s all about the pumpin' tracks and great vibes that come from the DJ and the crowd. Drinks are pouring and bodies are shaking!

3. Numero Uno

For all the gringos out there, Numero Uno is an ideal place to get your party on in the north west of the island. Based in Ta’ Qali, this club is more of a venue for big events aimed at bringing many groups of people together.

4. Footloose

As epic as Havana, Footloose is the next place you’ve hit once your favourite tracks have been played. Footloose is a classic party club where drink tokens, jolly dancers and a psyched up scene are to be expected.

5. Bar Native

Bar Native is not one for the masses but a great destination for those looking to hear some good music, enjoy a few drinks and, most importantly, enjoy your friends’ company. Bar Native is the go-to for those who prefer a chat rather than a dance off.

7. Sky Club

Sky Club is one of the best clubs on the island, decked out with top-notch sound systems, pumped staff and a great LED display to really bring up the vibes! Some super acts have been seen here, so there’s no saying what this summer may bring.

Drinks by the pool as the sun sets? Cafe Del Mar is your best bet. If you’re after a couple of cocktails with your mates and want to spend the evening dancing, lounging and chatting, this is such an awesome destination.

10. Tico Tico

Valletta is also a great spot to bar-hop with Tico Tico high up on the list. This Strait Street classic is more of a casual meet up but, after a few drinks, the dance floor might look increasingly appealing.

11. Grotta

Gozo’s ultimate…Grotta. Nestled between Munxar and Xlendi, this nightclub, found on the edge of a gorgeous valley, is a local for many Gozitans, even drawing the attention of Maltese party people.

When the sun starts to make its way back up into the sky, you know it’s time to put the tequila down and step away from the bar. Your walk of shame starts here - emphasis on the walk; there’ll be no driving for you matey!
