Sam Ryder helped break the UK’s unlucky Eurovision streak after finishing first in the jury vote and second overall with his song ‘Space Man’.
Ryder earned his country 466 points in total – 183 from televoting and 283 from the jury – giving the UK its best result since 1997.
This was a huge sigh of relief for British Eurovision-lovers as the UK had finished in last place with zero points the year prior, after being represented by James Newman’s song ‘Embers’.
Ryder first rose to prominence during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, after posting a number of music covers on his TikTok account. It wasn’t long before he caught the attention of some major musicians and, by the end of the year, he became the most-followed British artist on the social media platform.
