What’s better than a comfortable chair to stretch back in when you’re sitting by the sea or at a BBQ? And this team knows it! The steel-framed designer chair Weavature was born of the skills of local designers and craftmen – some modern and some traditional – that merged the traditional Maltese weaving pattern with the precision of digital design.
Weavature was already recognised for its craft, having been awarded first prize at Premju Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti 2023, Malta’s national craft award organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation.
The woven seat, based on rising global temperatures, was developed as a pattern by I+A and brought to life in dialogue with master weaver Antoine Vella, whose craft grounded the concept in tradition. The steel frame, shaped and welded by Christian Bezzina, followed the design’s call for strength with restraint, holding the fabric in tension without excess.
At a time when many traditional crafts are at risk of fading, Weavature proves that meaningful design can have both cultural depth and global appeal.
And now, the minds (and hands) behind this beautiful chair are launching its final piece, today, Friday 25th April at the Roof Garden in the Valletta Design Cluster, between 5 PM and 7 PM. The launch will include a short presentation, followed by the opportunity to view the chair and speak directly with the team behind it.
RSVP for the launch by sending an email to Joeaby Vassallo at [email protected] and get more info at iplusa.com.mt/weavature.
Take a seat!
