Local history lovers page, Historical Research Sharing Activity created by Vince Peresso, shared a collection of images from the mid-19 hundreds, showing a Cospicua bus with its right side completely ripped off!

According to the post, the incident happened on the 27th April 1935 whilst Giuseppe Mifsud was driving his father's 'xarabank' (the Maltese word for bus). He miscalculated the width of the Portes des Bombes found in Floriana and crashed into the side of the arch.

The post continued to explain that "the court-appointed expert determined that the bus had no mechanical defects and hence the accident was due to a bad manoeuvre of the driver."

Giuseppe, the driver, stated that he felt unwell ('hassu hazin') as he lost control of the bus.

"The magistrate concluded that this was just an unfortunate accident," the post continued.

Unfortunately, one of the passengers, Fortunato Sevasta and the driver suffered pretty serious injuries and were taken to the hospital, where Dr E.Agius confirmed that they were suffering from shock. Another passenger, Giovanni Spiteri suffered slight injuries in his face.
