Unseasonably warm and humid conditions have settled over the Maltese Islands, creating a distinctive weather pattern that is expected to persist until at least early next week.
According to Maltese Islands Weather, temperatures are currently running 2°C to 3°C above the seasonal average, giving the islands a mild, almost spring-like feel despite the winter calendar. This warmth, combined with a very light southerly wind that is at times almost completely absent, has contributed to calm but moisture-laden nights across the country.
One of the more notable features of the current weather is the widespread formation of mist and fog patches during the night and early morning. These low-visibility conditions, while typically short-lived, are a direct result of the exceptionally high relative humidity, which is hovering between 85% and 90%.
Such humidity levels have also led to heavy dewfall, with certain localities recording up to 0.4 mm of nightly precipitation solely from condensed moisture. Although this is not rainfall in the traditional sense, the cumulative effect can leave surfaces, fields, and roads significantly damp by sunrise.
While many may appreciate the mild temperatures and calm days, the persistent moisture can pose challenges, particularly for early-morning commuters and agricultural communities monitoring levels of dampness.
