This rising star will wear renowned designer Jason Grech's dress at the Bkara festa
He’s one of 11 siblings (yes, 11!) born to Maltese-Aussie immigrants and a renowned fashion designer Down Under. Jason Grech, born and raised in Australia is on the island to celebrate the Birkirkara festa, having family connections to the town and will also be showcasing a new design. We spoke to Jason who told us all about his next creation that will be showcased at the local feast, worn by none other than X Factor Malta contestant Nicole Frendo!
The gorgeous design
Jason tells us that unlike his previous designs that have indeed featured Maltese characteristics, this new design will go a different route. And the fashion designer tells us that Nicole Frendo will be wearing it to perform live during the festa celebrations. He even gave us a sneak peek into the gorgeous design!

Jason teased that he’s got a new collection coming out soon in the coming month. “My new #16 collection will be released on 5th September at Melbourne Fashion Week and that will again feature the Maltese details through the collection.” #YAS!
Last year, Jason designed this fabulous dress with a revised version of the local band club’s (Ghaqda Muzikali Sant’Elena) logo. His grandfather, Giuseppe Busuttil, actually lead the band club for 35 years! Nicole’s dress, unlike this one will be a different tone, and we so can’t wait to see it in the flesh!
The Birkirkara Festa
This year, the Birkirkara Festa is celebrating its 100th anniversary and lots of surprises are in store, it seems and cool things are being done to prepare for the celebrations. In fact, Nicole Frendo and former Eurovision singer (a total Karkariz) Glenn Vella released a song together, written by Emil Calleja and composed by Cyprian Cassar, called Dejjem Hawn Ghalik all about the locality and the feast.
