A pie made out of PASTIZZI?

Jillian Mallia

While casually scrolling through Facebook, you’ll see a lot of current affairs, cute animal pictures, memes and then there's that one occasional post that will stop you in your tracks. And this one did just that. A couple of days ago, newly launched Facebook page Ch-EAT posted a foodie video of a new creation: a pastizzi pie – yes, I know!

Being the curious foodie I am, I just had to reach out to the brains behind the idea. Jon Camilleri is a video editor and absolutely loves food and cooking. His motto - 'eat, cheat, repeat' - has become a tagline for his new page, and honestly, we’re living for it!

How did Ch-EAT come about?

“I enjoy cooking and I started off by posting some pictures of my creations on Instagram,” Jon tells me. “I tried to combine my job with my hobby as I’m a video editor.” Jon stresses that this is mostly home cooking as he’s not a professional chef, but quite frankly, the way things seem to be developing, he might be heading down that road!

“The recipes posted are mostly for cheat meals, because we all need a little indulgence! I try to stick to a gym routine and a diet at the same time.” Jon also uses Maltese ingredients when he can - and we applaud him for it!

The genius pastizzi pie

Jon chose to launch his new Facebook page with this pastizzi pie video, remembering making it for the first time a couple of years ago (it was a hit – obvs). “The idea came from a simple ricotta pie. I always try to invent and create new things with the ingredients I have in my fridge and I happened to have some frozen pastizzi in the freezer. The rest is history!”

He’s also made a low-carb (keto friendly) pesto pizza and twistees and chicken fingers. Hardcore cheat meals with a local twist!

So, what’s in store for Ch-EAT?

Jon’s got some foodie videos featuring Gozitan peppered cheese (gbejna) and something with a beer twist for St Paddy’s coming up. “I’m not selling ready-made meals, just encouraging people to recreate them. Anyone can cook, you just need a sprinkle of passion!”
