They’re back! Ponte Ferries commences Malta-Sicily service after ‘unexpected legal issue’
Ponte Ferries – a new fast-ferry catamaran service operating to and from Malta and Sicily – commenced its operations today following a three-month delay caused by an unexpected legal issue.
The company was originally meant to launch its service on 6th August, however it was forced to push the date back after a competing operator lodged a last-minute objection to its use of the Augusta Port in Sicily.
Taking to social media, Ponte Ferries announced that it received a temporary permit from the Italian authorities, thus allowing it to make use of the aforementioned port.
“We’re very appreciative of our clients’ patience and understanding during the past weeks and thank all the parties involved for their continuous support and co-operation to give Ponte Ferries the green light to set said,” a company spokesperson said.

Throughout its first month of operations, Ponte Ferries is treating its customers to special introductory prices. A return trip for a driver and private vehicle will cost under €100, whilst any accompanying adults can travel one way at €9.99.
Children aged 13 and under and pets also get to travel for free. Cyclists can take up their bicycle at no extra charge.
Apart from these offers, Ponte Ferries has also set special rates for light cargo throughout this month.
These offers come at a time when people can capitalise on the slashed prices for Black Friday in neighbouring Sicily as well as secure deals on designer brands from the popular Sicilia Outlet Village.
