“The Nadur Local Council has decided that until further notice, the Open Market will not be organised, since it is an organised mass event in public,” a statement read, shared on Nadur local councillor Edward Said’s Facebook page.

“The Local Council considered the following:
1. Giving priority to health matters over economic activity until the situation improves.
2. We want to avoid organising public activities knowing the risks they pose.
3. We do not want to have masses of people at the same place without control.”

“Whilst understanding that the government is treating this period as transitional, we realise that this is not a normal period of time. The Council always took pro-active decisions in the interests of our residents and will remain prudent. This decision will hold until further notice.”
