The Christmas rush! Holiday travel between Malta and Gozo surpasses 301,000 passengers
Figures have more than doubled since the 2012–2013 festive season!

Passenger traffic between Malta and Gozo reached unprecedented levels over the Christmas holidays, with 301,041 people crossing the channel using both the Gozo Channel ferries and the Fast Ferry service.

The strong turnout highlighted Gozo’s appeal as a preferred getaway for Maltese residents and visitors during the festive season.

Figures show that between Monday 22nd December 2025 and Sunday 4th January 2026, a total of 258,710 passengers travelled on the Gozo Channel ferry service in both directions. This marked a 6.7% increase when compared to the same period last year.

During the same timeframe, Gozo Highspeed’s Fast Ferry service between the Grand Harbour and Mġarr transported 42,331 passengers, reflecting a significant rise of 29.05% over the 2024–2025 festive period.

Overall, passenger movements during the 2025–2026 Christmas holidays increased by 9.3% year on year, while figures have more than doubled since the 2012–2013 festive season, registering a record growth of 133%.
