If it feels like everyone around you has been travelling recently, you’re not imagining!
The Malta Air Traffic Services has announced that this summer has been a record-breaking one in the number of overflights, meaning the number of flights passing over the Maltese Islands. The busiest day of air traffic ever recorded was Sunday 23rd June this year, with a whopping 539 flights passing through the Maltese airspace that day.

The Malta Air Traffic Services is responsible for controlling not only the departures and arrivals at the local airport, but also every airplane passing through the Malta Flight Information Region, which comprises a large area of the Mediterranean.
The Malta International Airport has also experienced an extremely busy summer, exceeding the expected traffic for this year. The day with the most activity was Thursday 27th July, with 255 arrivals and departures combined, seeing an overall increase in 12% when compared to previous summers.
The post-pandemic travel boom has certainly reached new heights, with scores of people deciding to explore the world more - Malta included!
