The couple lived in Gozo for a long time.
It has been announced that Ann Montsarrat, the wife of the acclaimed novelist Nicholas Monsarrat, passed away. She was reportedly 83 years of age. The couple lived in San Lawrenz, Gozo and were very much involved in the community.
“It is with great sadness for the San Lawrenz Local Council to learn about the loss of Ann Montsarrat widow of the late Nicholas Montsarrat the author of “The Kappillan of Malta”,” the San Lawrenz Local Council said on Facebook, celebrating her life and involvement in the village.
“Mrs Ann Montsarrat lived in our village for many years and was a vivid supporter of our community. May she rest in peace.” They shared some old photos during an activity that honoured Mr Montsarrat with the “prestigious title of Honorary Citizen.”
“Malta, and Gozo in particular, was undoubtedly Ann’s true spiritual home. She felt strongly about the preservation of the Maltese artistic and cultural heritage,” Montsarrat’s brother, Richard Griffiths, shared with Times of Malta.
“It is therefore fitting that, after a long and stimulating life and, sadly, following a debilitating illness, during which she was cared for with extraordinary devotion by her Maltese friends, she will have her final resting place in the cemetery in San Lawrenz.”
Rest in peace, Mrs Montsarrat
