Raise a glass! Discover women’s untold maritime stories this Women’s Day in Mdina
If you’re looking for something to do on Women’s day, this one’s for you! Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum will commemorate Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March 2026 with a specially curated guided experience focusing on women’s connections to maritime life.
Entitled Women & The Sea, the themed tour will take place from 10:30am to 12:00pm within the historic setting of Mdina. The event will delve into the complex and often difficult path women followed in their pursuit of formal recognition and employment within the maritime sector.
Drawing inspiration from items in the collection of Olof Gollcher, founder of the museum, the tour will highlight artworks and artefacts that reflect women’s enduring yet frequently overlooked relationship with the sea. Visitors will learn about the social, economic and cultural obstacles that limited women’s participation in maritime professions, alongside the meaningful contributions they made within coastal and seafaring communities across different periods.
After the tour, guests will be treated to a glass of Buck’s Fizz in the museum’s revivalist courtyard. In the event of inclement weather, refreshments will instead be served inside the Palazzo’s Refectory.
Advance booking is essential. Reservations must be made by emailing [email protected] by 2:00pm on Friday 6 March.
Admission fees are set at €18, with a reduced rate of €15 for museum members and €6 for children aged between 6 and 12. Please note that tickets are non-refundable.
More information is available on the museum’s official Facebook event page.
