Rain rain, come our way! Malta gets it's first proper rainfall in almost two months
It’s been a dry winter so far for the Maltese islands but things took a change for the better last night with the first proper rainfall recorded in almost two months.
Local weather site Weather Malta took to Facebook to announce the exact figure earlier this morning: "FINALLY after 50 days! It's RAINING across Malta and Gozo RIGHT NOW! Is this the weather you love?" the caption read.
Although not heavy rainfall by any standard (it averaged 0.6mm over both islands), the light drizzle currently being experienced across the islands is only the beginning of what is hoped to be a lengthy rainy spell. Indeed, rain continues to feature in this week's weather forecasts, with possible thunderstorms expected today as well as showers over the weekend.
The overall dry atmosphere recorded in recent months, although welcomed by some, generated the ire of farmers, whose crops suffered heavily due to the lack of rainfall.
