Preserving history! Gozitan Local Councils receiving grant to restore Gozo’s heritage sites
A project aimed at preserving Gozo’s historical characteristics.
It has been announced that Gozitan Local Councils and Adminstrative Centres will be receiving a restoration scheme were through it, they can identify and propose historical sites that are in dire need of restoration throughout Gozo.
This includes the restoration of small buildings, monuments, statues and shrines among other sites that have a historical or artistic value.
For the first time, this year’s scheme will also include any alleyways that contribute to the overall charm of Gozo.
When the restoration involves work on shrines, statues or other historical monuments, a maximum total of €15,000 will be given. On the other hand, when the project involves the restoration of alleywas the grant can go up to €75,000 while sustainable materials have to be used.
The chosen projects are then set to be completed by 2026.
